Dr. Anthony Montanez

TSAOG is very pleased to welcome Dr. Anthony Montanez to our practice! He starts this week and has immediate appointments available.

Dr. Montanez is an orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship trained and specializing in conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder for patients of all ages.

Dr. Montanez is an orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship trained in hand, wrist, shoulder, and elbow surgery. His extended training included complete upper extremity care – including arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist. In addition, he will also treat all upper and lower extremity fractures.

He was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. He joined the U.S. Air Force after high school and served six years as a medic. In 2004, he served in a field hospital in Iraq caring for numerous civilian and military casualties. It was during that deployment that he decided he wanted to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery.

After the military, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio, graduating Summa Cum Laude in Biology. He then pursued his medical degree at the University of Texas at Galveston, where he graduated Cum Laude. After graduating from medical school he made the trek to Salt Lake City to join the orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Utah. During his residency he was involved in several research projects in rotator cuff repair, trigger finger, and fracture care. He also served in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic to provide orthopedic hand care to local people in need. He then gained additional fellowship training in Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. While there he learned from experts in the field techniques in hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder surgery.

Dr. Montanez has a special interest in endoscopic carpal tunnel release, cubital tunnel release, dupuytren’s contracture, shoulder, wrist, and elbow arthroscopy, and fractures of the wrist, elbow, and shoulder. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, mountain biking, racquetball, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and pretty much anything else outdoors.
