An ankle fracture is a break in one or more of the bones that make up your ankle joint. This can happen from a fall, twist, or direct impact. Some ankle fractures can be treated with a cast or boot, but more serious breaks may need surgery. During ankle fracture repair, the surgeon repositions the broken bones and secures them with plates and screws to help them heal correctly. This helps restore ankle stability, alignment, and function so you can return to walking and daily activities.
